experiment objective
abstract
Granular gases are assemblies of mesoscopic particles that can be distributed randomly for extended amounts of time at low density only in microgravity. The DLR team has experience with magnetic excitation of such granular gases, and the CAS team is expert in granular gases subject to mechanical vibration. In order to compare the properties of such granular gases under both means of agitation, the proposed drop tower campaign shall allow the measurement under vibration for parameters similar to values from previous drop tower campaigns under magnetic excitation. In addition, the proposed drops shall help prepare optimal parameter values for the analogous experiment on the Chinese satellite SJ-10.
